About

My name is Emily and I’m a 20-something graduate student who lives in New Jersey of all places. I like to read. A lot. And I’m a nerd about grammar. (Which means as soon as I make a grammar infraction here, I will face the throngs. Or, at least my mom.) I have to give props to my friend, Lauren McMahon, who has a kick-ass blog, which I’m copying without asking her permission. In the far-off chance that you’re reading this and don’t know Lauren or her blog, you should visit. In my free time, I obviously like reading the newspaper, watching television, and going out with friends. I also go into the city (that is, New York City) far too frequently for my budget to allow. Even though I live in Jersey, I am from the Washington, D.C. suburbs, which I miss terribly. Please let me know if you find fun articles that you think I’d like. I’m always up for some interesting procrastination…

  • Did you notice that in the very sentence that you talk about making a grammar infraction, you make a grammar infraction? The period should totally be outside the parenthesis. Just had to point that out (because I am an asshole).

  • Actually Kevin, you’re wrong. The period only goes outside the parenthesis when part of the sentence is outside the parentheses (like the way I’m using it here and you used it in your post). There are some grammar problems in that post though, namely that many of those sentences aren’t even sentences. Still, I’ll never screw up “they’re,” “their” or “there” though, and if I do, I’ll buy you a beer or something.
